Legalize it
Don't criticize it. DirtyTalkingGirl keeps sending me useful links, and I keep forgetting to post them and thank her. Here's one such: passionate arguments, pro and con, about unionizing prostitutes in Spain. The comment thread poses a dichotomy between legalizing prostitution and helping people to leave (or escape) it. My view (granted, an interested and partial one) is that this dichotomy is false. In fact, the contrary is true: To legalize the Life is to enable people to leave it, because legalization makes the whore's exit strategy—i.e., recycling her earnings into the aboveground economy—so much cleaner.Granted, legalization doesn't directly address the issue of human trafficking; but that social evil will continue until, at a minimum, there is a minimum worldwide wage. {NA} NOTE DirtyTalkingGirl is a Friday Pussy Blogger Emeritus; in fact, the first at VLA. 3 Comments:Do you know what will happen with all this, John, the women will simply have a new type of pimp. The the union leaders will be their pimps, and in some scenarios the Government would be. By cj goad ~ photography, at May 25, 2005 6:12 AM
Lili, so what? Anyone who pays taxes is a government whore. The only escape from that is death. Point taken, DTG, but I think too many industries, like the poverty industry, form for no other reason than to employ themselves, and never really help those they formed to help. The 'dilemma' of prostituion needs to remain a dilemma and an unsolved problem simply to keep the leeches employed. It's a cause, and as such will always be a cause, with no effect.
